Now sometimes people do stupid things and when they do you may want to call them stupid to their face, but this should be avoided at all costs as insults create an emotional barrier between giver and reciever. Instead try one of these phrases:

• I guess I've seen people make worse mistakes.
• That's great... (long pause) ... great.
• Whatever makes you happy...
• Good luck with that.

When you use one of these phrases smile reassuringly but do not laugh or they may think you are insincere.
