Vladimir Putin was named man of the year last year by time magazine, because he has brought stability to Russia, which is great... don't get me wrong, I LOVE stability...
Too bad though that in order to become stable Russia has let this control freak run their country... Too bad also that Russia is beginning to resemble pre WWII Germany... Right now in Russia opposition press is silenced sometimes violently with an alarming number of unexplained and uninvestigated reporters deaths. Putin also holds summer camps for Putin youth, reminiscent of Hitler youth groups, where teenagers are indoctrinated with how great Putin is and how bad anyone who opposes him is. They also burn effigy's of our Pres. and other symbols of the west. Further Putin has single handedly removed the democratic process from Russia by not letting the opposition register on the ballot and jailing opposition campaign supporters(see youtube clips below).
The good news is though that Russia's economy is thriving and there is no sign yet that Putin is mentally unstable and will try to take over the world like Hitler.
The bad news is that if Putin ever does decide to try to take over the world, Russia already takes up 1/5 of the earth so taking over the rest wouldn't be so hard.
The good news is though that two oceans separate us from Russia so they may get 3/5 but they'll never get that last 2/5.
... But at least the Bolsheviks aren't still in charge that was a time of no fun and no laughter

This is so true and so scary. Especially what that journalist said about Russia needing an enemy to unite them. . . thats us, I guess.
I want to call some of my friends back there and ask them what is going on and what they think about it, but I'm afraid that their lines are tapped and they'll get arrested for talking about politics with an American.
this is why we have to be careful about giving up freedom for security (in their case, economic security), but yay for doubled wages! They needed that.
